Acenaphthene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of the two-ringed naphthalene with a C₂H₄ bridge between positions 1 and 8. An alternative name, 1,2-dihydroacenaphthylene, emphasizes that it is a hydrogenated form of acenaphthylene. Other names include: naphthyleneethylene, and peri-ethylenenaphthalene.

Its molecular formula is C₁₂H₁₀ and its CAS registry number is 83-32-9.

It does not appear to be carcinogenic.
